Born in Norwalk, he was the son of the late Russell and Mary Fairchild and grandson of the late Lester and Rosalie Fairchild. He graduated from Wilton High School in 1979.
When not working John could be found trout fishing, tending to his garden, or paintballing. He felt blessed by the generous support of the Wilton community and was a strong advocate for the Wilton Volunteer Ambulance Corps.
He became involved with the Corps after they helped his father after he was hit by a car. As his father battled for his life, WVAC responded to the scene and once he was at the hospital, they continued visiting and drove him to rehab appointments. His father eventually died from his injuries.
But Fairchild never forgot and became very involved with fundraising and helping the Crops.
“John Fairchild was extremely generous to our organization, a kind man of great moral character and an example to all of us," the Corps said on Facebook. "He will be dearly missed. On behalf of everyone at WVAC, our most sincere heartfelt condolences to his wife, Linda and his children."
Fairchild is survived by his wife, Linda, his children, Jonathan and Allison, and her husband, Chris. He is lovingly remembered by his brother, Daniel, sister-in-law Jaci, his nieces Kailee and Emilee, as well as his Aunt Carol Fairchild Smith and cousins Chris, Russell, Claudia, Sally, and their families. In addition, he is survived by a multitude of loving in-laws, friends, and his treasured pets.
His family will receive friends on Sunday from 2 to 6 p.m. at the Magner Funeral Home, 12 Mott Ave., Norwalk. Services and burial will be held privately.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Wilton Volunteer Ambulance Corps, 234 Danbury Rd., Wilton, CT 06897 or at www.wiltonambulance.org.
